Thracian fortress and sanctuary in the area of Asar Kaya
Overview
Remains of a Thracian fortress and sanctuary are located in the Asar Kaya area (Buyuk Tepe), about 1.6 km south of the village of Zhenda. The fortress was located on a high rock terrace, built of piles of stones without mortar. The fortification was naturally protected by sheer cliffs, and from its most accessible part (southwest) it was protected by a stone wall.
Carvings such as trapezoidal niches, gutters, grooves, semicircles, etc. were found on the rock on which the fortress was located. Below the fortress there is a large rock in the shape of a huge mushroom, on which there are also many Thracian niches with different orientations.
