Trun

Trun is a town in Western Bulgaria, Pernik District, the administrative center of Trun Municipality. Trun is located in a mountainous area, near the border with Serbia and the towns of Breznik and Dragoman. It is located on the banks of the river Erma, in the easternmost part of the high mountain valley Znepole. Trun under the name Zveneapolis is found in the Middle Ages in a charter of the Byzantine emperor Basil II the Bulgarian assassin. It is assumed that this name gives rise to the name Znepole, or because of the area the city has secondarily acquired this name. Trun is an old, medieval settlement, registered in Ottoman documents from the middle of the 16th century under the names Kaaza Iznebol, Iznebol Kasaba, Trun and Taran Palanka.
