Overview

The Rhodope region has been inhabited since ancient times. Many of the discovered sanctuaries testify to the cult of the ancient tribes to the stone and the sun. As a result of this cult, nowadays we find numerous monuments of megalithic culture. In the area of ​​the village of Benkovski there are plenty of them - mounds, rock sanctuaries, tombs, dolmens and others. Near the Veslets neighborhood of the village of Benkovski there is a rock tomb called by the locals Dupchenia Kamak.

It is a typical local stone with a hole in the front and top. People believe in the healing power of the sanctuary, which is why it is very popular. The openings allow penetration through it and that is why many people perform this ritual, looking for relief for various pains. The drilled stone can be reached from the Veslets neighborhood. At the entrance to Benkovski from Kirkovo, 800 meters after the sign of the village there is an intersection to the right of the road. It leads to the neighborhood Veslets. There is no sign for either the neighborhood or the sanctuary.

The road is slightly steep, covered with rough asphalt. The last houses pass and on the hill, you have to leave your car. On the left is a beautiful panorama of the settlements in the area. To the right of the road there is a fenced pasture, you walk along it and about 350-400 meters is the sanctuary. From a distance, opposite, you can see a large tree next to the stone. Even if the healing power of the place is a myth, only the fertile climate and the natural beauty of the area with the grazing cows around lead to the emotional calm of man.
