History Museum - Pomorie
Overview
History Museum - Pomorie shelters and exhibits the cultural and historical heritage of the town and municipality. The museum premises were built at the end of the 19th century as a Greek girls' school. It is a cultural monument of local significance.
The museum has collections in Archeology, Ethnography, New History.
The archeological exposition preserves unique artifacts related to the prehistory of the region, as well as to the ancient and medieval history of Anhialo (ancient name of Pomorie) - architectural details of the Roman and medieval city, ceramics, floor mosaics, works of medieval toreutics, rich numismatic collections.
The ethnographic exposition presents the interior of the traditional Anhial house from the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, as well as objects from the life of the Anhial people. There are interesting exhibits and photographs revealing the livelihood, atmosphere, and mindsets in Anhialo and the region. Particular attention is given to the village of Kozichino (until 1934 the village of Erkech) - a hearth of the Bulgarian spirit. Kozichino is the only village in Bulgaria that has managed to keep the language and traditions of our ancestors untouched by time. Old Bulgarian is still spoken here and the unique customs and traditions of the old Bulgarian culture are alive.
An exhibition dedicated to the Christian heritage of Pomorie presents the city as an ancient episcopal center, with highly educated bishops and residents who have preserved the traditions of the Orthodox faith over the centuries. Visitors can see medieval murals, crosses, reliquaries, pencils with iconographic images, samples of iconographic art, liturgical books, and more.
