The Church of the Transfiguration - Pomorie
Overview
The Church of the Transfiguration in Pomorie was built in 1763-64 and consecrated in 1765. It is the oldest building in the town. What is special about this temple is that there is no altar apse, which is rare in temple construction in Bulgaria. It is believed that this church was built over a small temple from the Middle Ages. The oldest icon dates from the end of the XV century, the beginning of the XVI century. The iconostasis is wood carved, with various floral motifs. There are 17 large icons, painted by different painters in the seventeenth - eighteenth century, and 33 small icons.
