Sredna Arda-protected area
Overview
Sredna Arda is a protected area in Bulgaria in the region of the Eastern Rhodopes on the left bank of the Studen Kladenets dam. It was declared as such on July 24, 2000 (State Gazette, No. 66/2000), registered under code 138 in the Register of Protected Areas and Protected Areas in Bulgaria. Territorially it is located in Kardzhali District, Kardzhali Municipality, in the lands of the villages of Visoka Polyana and Zvezdelina. The protected area falls within the territory of the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water - Haskovo and the Regional Directorate of Forestry - Kardzhali.
The area has been declared protected in order to:
· Preservation of the characteristic eastern Rhodope landscape (rock crown of high and inaccessible rocks with relatively shallow, dry caves formed as a result of tectonic processes), and
· Protection of the habitats and populations of Egyptian vultures, griffon vultures, white-tailed buzzards, black storks, black storks, rock masons, blue rock thrushes, Thracian partridges, bat colonies. There is an overlap between the territory of Sredna Arda and the protected area "Eastern Rhodopes" under the Habitats Directive, and the protected area "Cold Well", declared under the Birds Directive.
In the protected area with a total area of 420.0 hectares, construction, quarrying and geological research activities, felling in forest plantations, the practice of mountaineering, hang gliding and camping and lighting fires outside the designated areas, etc. are prohibited.
