Orthodox Church of St. Dimitar of Thessaloniki, Varna
Overview
The construction of the church "St. Dimitar Solunski ”began in 1885, after the settlement of refugees from White Sea Thrace in the village of Pashakoy. The history of the temple shows that the construction of a house of prayer in the village began several times and by coincidence was still not completed. The construction of the current church, which began in 1902 and in the following years completed its main building. The church was built under the sanctity of His Eminence Metropolitan Simeon of Varna and Preslav (1840 - 1937). The bell tower and the pretense building were completed in 1939, a few years after the renaming of the village of Pashakoy to Vladislavovo (1934). The village of Vladislavovo was officially declared a district of the city of Varna in 1974. In 2003, a Sunday school was built near the church, where the doctrine of children and adults is taught. The church was expanded with a narthex in 2012, under the archpastorate of His Eminence Metropolitan Cyril (1954 - 2013). On October 26, 2017 - St. Dimitrov's Day, a ceremony of laying antimins and consecration of a new wood-carved oak iconostasis and canonically painted icons by His Eminence Metropolitan John of Varna and Veliko Preslav is celebrated. Built and decorated with much love, today the church "St. Dimitar Solunski ”stands out as a spiritual and attractive center for the people living in the Vladislav Varnenchik district - Varna.
