Lednitsata Cave
Overview
Lednitsata Cave is located 7.5 km west of the village of Gela (Smolyan region), among an old beech forest, near the Lednitsata hut. The cave is part of the karst area Zlosten, declared a natural landmark. Here on an area of 358 ha are concentrated some of the most famous, mostly precipice, caves, one of which is the Glacier. The "glacier" is undeveloped and is not suitable for mass visits, and for this purpose the road to it and its entrance are not well marked. The cave is 242 meters deep and 1525 meters long, but for visiting (and only with companions - qualified cavers) are available about 100 meters. It is a complex of alternating galleries, precipices, thresholds, small halls and more. Its entrance is narrow (passed by crawling), but the vestibule is large and looks like an altar with a high ceiling. From here you descend by natural steps about 7 m to the "big site". There are small terraces decorated with transparent domes - large stalactites and stalactites of ice. The name of the cave comes from the thin ice crust, which for most of the year covers the walls of the entrance hall and the associated narrow gallery.
