Monument to the Unknown Soldier - Haskovo
Overview
The monument to the unknown warrior in Haskovo was erected in memory of the thousands of Bulgarians who died in the name of the freedom and independence of Bulgaria during the Balkan Wars and the First World War. The monument was built on the central town square "Freedom". The foundation stone of the monument was laid on May 6 (Day of the Bulgarian Army), and the unveiling was on June 2, 1927. The monument was consecrated by Bishop Hariton, and Tsar Boris III was present at the solemn ceremony. The monument to the unknown warrior is a work of sculpture by T. Deliradev. It is made of gray granite. The positioning of the monument still evokes the feeling of the best possible solution. The composition of the monument features a metal statue of a Bulgarian warrior in full combat gear, and the figures built of white marble on all four sides depict warriors from the military - infantry, artillery, cavalry and command staff. The cross for bravery is placed on the front side of the monument. The monument to the unknown warrior is the place where the Haskovo public pays its respects on all solemn occasions related to the history of Bulgaria.
