Monument of the 10th Infantry Rhodope Regiment - Haskovo
Overview
The regiment was formed in 1885 in the town of Haskovo after the armistice of the Serbo-Bulgarian War (1885) under the name of the 3rd Sheinovsky Infantry Regiment. reserve company and the 4th cave company of the East Rumelia militia. During the years of its existence it was reformed several times and its name was changed. During the Balkan War (1912 - 1913) he took part in the first battle for control of the Kurt-Kale height, and then in the battles near the villages of Buldur-koy and Kadakyoy on October 7 and 8, 1912, near the villages of Koyunliy and Yurush. A company of the regiment took part in the capture of 14,000 corps of Yaver Pasha on November 15. The regiment is part of the siege of the eastern sector of the Edirne Fortress. At midnight on March 12, he was the first to launch an attack on Fort Ajioglu. The Rhodopes took over their fort at 1.50 am on March 13 and thus tore the fort line, which was considered impenetrable until now. The direct attack on Edirne killed 129 people from the regiment, and 65 died later from their wounds and diseases. The monument of the 10th Rhodope Infantry Regiment is the only one of its kind in all of Bulgaria and was built with funds from the participants in the regiment and their relatives. A bas-relief of Colonel Veselin Valkov, commander of the 10th Rhodope Infantry Regiment, was also discovered.
