Overview

The museum exists as a department of the Regional Historical Museum - Varna and is housed in the building of the Archaeological Museum - Varna. The collection of exhibits for the recent history of Varna began in the early 60s of the twentieth century by the curators working in the then Museum of the Revolutionary Workers' Movement (now the Museum of the New History of Varna). In 1965, the first curator was appointed in the newly created Department of Socialist Construction. After the changes in 1989, it was renamed the Museum of Recent History. The funds of the museum include about 30,000 exhibits and information about the history of Varna and the region from the mid-40s of the twentieth century to the present day. Their number ranks first in the country. Photos, documents, material, audio and video tapes containing interesting moments from the political, economic and cultural life of Varna and the Varna region during the most recent period are stored. The museum does not have a permanent exhibition. In its existence, more than 100 temporary exhibitions have been organized. The variety of exhibits in the fund provides an opportunity for selection and presentation of topics from all spheres of public life.
