Museum of Military Glory - Yambol
Overview
The construction of the Museum of Military Glory in Yambol is associated with the cause of preserving the identity of military formations stationed in the city of Yambol and the region in the period after the Liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule to the present day. The idea for the creation of the "Museum of Military Glory" belongs to the citizens of Yambol, the initiative committee of the Union of Patriotic War, the patriotic societies and organizations in the city. Guided by this idea with the full support of the mayor of Yambol, Mr. Georgi Slavov laid the foundations for the establishment of the first municipal specialized military museum in Bulgaria. At the XXXIV meeting held on July 28, 2010. Yambol Municipal Council decides to establish a "Museum of Military Glory" in Yambol. A military area known to all Yambol residents as the "Pioneer Barracks" was chosen as the location for the museum. The area where the 3rd Pioneer Company was located. The realization of the idea became possible with the partnership between the municipality of Yambol and the Ministry of Defense, which donated most of the exhibits. The museum was opened with an official ceremony on May 9, 2013. and is the only specialized municipal military museum in Bulgaria. The symbol of the Museum of Military Glory is the restored Portal-monument of the 29th Yambol Infantry Regiment. In the lapidarium you can see several restored Panzer IV tanks, Sturmgeschutz III assault guns and the unique self-propelled anti-tank gun Jagdpanzer L 48, which is one of the six preserved in the world, joined the Bulgarian army, probably as a trophy during the battles in Hungary or in Austria. In the two exhibition halls there are photos and documents about the battle route of the 29th Yambol Infantry Regiment, IV Cavalry Regiment, Third Pioneer Company, belongings of Yambol, who participated in the Balkan Wars 1912-1913 and the two world wars, medals and orders for courage, firearms and melee weapons, which are in service in the Bulgarian army. Among the exhibits is a Manlicher rifle, which Gen. Anyu Angelov, in his capacity as Minister of Defense, presented the city with the provision of the site for the future museum.
