Monastery "Saint Marina"
Overview
The monastery "St. Marina" (also known as the "Monastery of Dobrudzha") is located east of the village of Botevo (Varna region), about 35 km. from the city of Varna, almost on the border between the districts of Varna and Dobrich. The monastery can be reached as from the main road Varna - Dobrich, about 6-7 km. before the village of Stozher take the road to the villages of Krumovo and Botevo.
The monastery chapel is with the same name as "St. Marina" and dates from 1884. Next to it there is a spring on which were built 2 baths - male and female.
In the past, the holiday of the monastery was very revered and visited by people from all over Dobrogea. They first went to the chapel to light a candle and pray for the health and peace of mind of relatives and friends, and then drank water from the baths for health. A large festival was also held.
After September 9 and the coming of the communist regime to power in Bulgaria, the monastery "St. Marina" fell into disrepair, but nowadays it has been restored and renovated, thanks to Metropolitan Cyril of Varna and Veliko Preslav and with the financial help of locals.
The monastery "St. Marina" offers conditions for overnight stays, but the group of tourists must be accompanied by a priest and have prior coordination with the management of the monastery.
