Late antique and medieval fortress Kastrich
Overview
Late antique and medieval fortress Kastrich is located on Cape Kastrich, 160 m long, 2.87 km northwest in a straight line from the center of the village of Rezovo. Other names with which she is known are Castro, Castritsa, Castricion.
The foundations of the fortress, which was built of quarry stone welded with mortar, have a rectangular shape with sides of approximately 20 by 30 m. This fortress was mentioned in 1263 by the Byzantine chronicler Georg Pahimer. It was also reported by Manuel Phil, describing the battles between Byzantium and Bulgaria for the capture of the fortified Black Sea cities south of the Burgas Bay.
Archaeological finds prove that Kastrich Fortress existed from late antiquity to the Ottoman invasion. Its altitude is 28 meters.
