Overview

The house of a Thracian ruler was discovered near the village of Brodilovo and has an area of 1.5 decares, surrounded by a fortress wall with a thickness of 2.40 m. The wall itself is preserved at 1-1.5 m. height. During the excavations a part of the security tower was discovered, which is located in the most accessible part of the site. Residential and outbuildings are located inside the site. The most interesting archeological finds were discovered in them. The house was probably set on fire during the war, as all the furniture was buried under the remains of the collapsed roof and walls of the houses. An interesting situation has been sealed intact for over II millennia. An altar (altar) was found in one of the rooms. Around it were discovered many locally made ceramic vessels and a large quantity of imported Greek ceramics - contros, lekit, amphorae; mega cups with rich ornamentation of plant motifs and those with images of people, etc. Some of the dishes are full of grain, wheat, millet and more. Piles of iron billets are stored in places, apparently for the manufacture of tools and weapons. Among the most interesting finds from the site are a sword type - mahaira and a sword type - romfeya (a typical Thracian sword used in the period III-I century BC). Rompheus-type swords are among the rarest in Bulgaria, and so far they have been found mainly in the Rhodopes.

According to archaeologists, the house existed from the end of the 2nd to the beginning of the 1st century BC, when it was burned and destroyed. Probably these are the events surrounding the wars between Rome and Mithridates VI, which are taking place in this part of the Balkans. At that time, one of the most powerful Thracian kingdoms was formed - that of the Asti, whose history is undoubtedly connected with the newly discovered royal house near Brodilovo, as well as with the similar house studied near Sinemorets. These two objects are synchronous in life and also died probably in the same military event. Both houses belonged to very rich and influential rulers. This is evidenced by the exceptional coin treasure found in the home near Sinemorets.
