House Museum Tsar Liberator Alexander II
Overview
The house of Ivan Vatsov, who was Pleven merchant was built on the eve of the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. With its rich interior it is a typical example of Revival urban life. On December 11, 1877, the Russian Emperor Alexander II was solemnly welcomed in this house, on behalf of the citizens of Pleven he was given a thank you address and in the presence of Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich, Romanian Prince Carol I, Russian Minister of War Milutin and prominent Russian generals he meets with the captured Turkish Marshal Osman Pasha.
From 12 to 22 December 1877 in the house lived and worked the first military governor of Pleven - Gen. MD Skobelev. At the initiative of the Tsar Liberator Alexander II Committee, Ivan Vatsov's house was bought as a museum. During its creation / 1904-1907 / a beautiful park was formed around it, for the construction of which neighboring properties were expropriated. Russian and trophy Turkish cannons, rifle barrels, sabers and bayonets provided by the Russian Ministry of War are used to make the original fence.
House Museum "Tsar Liberator Alexander II" was opened and solemnly consecrated on September 3, 1907 in the presence of Prince Ferdinand I, Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich, Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna, Gen. P. Parensov - participant in the war, Russian generals, Bulgarian ministers, deputies, members of the committee "Tsar Liberator Alexander II", supporters and volunteers, guests and citizens of Pleven.
