Stone bridge on Vit river

Overview

Shortly after the exit of Pleven in the direction of Sofia there is a bridge of historical significance, called "Bridge of Victory". The Bridge of Victory over the Vit River witnessed dramatic historical events after the siege of Pleven during the Russo-Turkish War of Liberation. On 10.12.1877 on this bridge the Russian army, under the command of Gen. Totleben captured Osman Pasha, thus ending the siege of Pleven. In honor of this victory, a monument to the victory was erected near the bridge. The bridge has been repaired and reconstructed, as well as the Victory Monument and lit up. Every year reconstructions of the events of 1877 are made with the participation of famous Bulgarian artists, as well as local volunteers.
