Regional historical museum

Overview

The collection of the Regional Historical Museum - Shumen consists of over 150,000 museum objects (5th millennium BC - 20th century). This makes it one of the richest Bulgarian museums.

Its permanent exhibition has been displayed in 8 halls - Prehistory, Antiquity, Middle Ages, History of the Bulgarian people XV-XIX centuries, Christian culture, Treasury.

Some of the most significant historical objects are the unique finds from the Kodjadermen mound - one of the richest archaeological cultures in Southeastern Europe (5th millennium BC). The only museum in Bulgaria where you can see them is the Regional historical museum in Shumen.

The museum also has the largest in Bulgaria collection of medieval Bulgarian and Byzantine lead seals, the largest numismatic collection, the rich gold jewelry for a horse bridle discovered in the tomb near the village of Ivanski (IV century BC), gold jewelry from Pliska and Shumen fortress and many more.
The museum is one of the Hundred National Tourist Sites of Bulgaria.
