Father Paisii City Art Gallery
Overview
In the immediate vicinity of the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is the building of the old two-storey school "Father Paisii", built in 1870 - today the City Art Gallery of Revival painting and woodcarving. For decades, it has been a hotbed of patriotism and knowledge. Prominent citizens of Berkovitsa study there - Dimitar Filipov, professors Mihail Geraskov, Stefan Ivanov, Petko Naumov, Nikolay Fol, academician Georgi Bliznakov. After the conservation of the school building, the new exposition of the City Art Gallery was opened on March 15, 1980. Its first exhibition was opened on February 9, 1969 in the inn.
Here, along with the Revival woodcarving and painting, works of famous Bulgarian authors are preserved - painting, graphics, sculpture. There is also a place for Berkovitsa artists Yordan Inkov, Dimitar Kutsarov, Kiril Vodenicharov, Angel Konstantinov, Yordanka and Boyan Stoyanovi, Ivan Davidkov, the talented graphic artist Hristo Mihailov, Valentin Gerasimov, Milcho Spasov and others from the young generation of Berkovitsa. The gallery has over 1,300 works by hundreds of authors. Most of the works are donations from artists, companies and the Union of Bulgarian Artists. It is planned that the contemporary art will be exhibited in the city center.
