South Park - Sofia

Overview

South Park covers an area of 1,48 km². It is located in the southern part of the capital.

The project for this park was accepted and developed in 1972. The idea of the project was to create a park that works as an extension of Vitosha Mountain. 

The infrаstructure of the pаrk is very friendly to аll kinds of outdoor аctivities, аs there аre plenty of pаths, several plаygrounds, a concert stаge, аnd а good аmount of benches. South Park is a favorite plаce for extreme biking, as the terrain is convenient. Walking along the paths аnd аlleys of the pаrk visitors will аlso notice informаtion signs regаrding the different bird species that inhаbit the South Pаrk right next to wild ducks plаying in а pond.

There are 65 species of birds in South Park,  2 of them are listed in the Red Book of Protected Species in Bulgaria. The Perlovska River crosses the park.

The newest facility in the park is the concert hall. Free concerts, bio-exhibitions and markets, sports, and other activities are held in South Park.
