North Park - Sofia

Overview

The northern park is located in the northern part of Sofia. It covers an area of 0.78 square kilometers. The Kakach River passes through the park.

The park was designed and built in the late '60s and early 70's of the 20th century on the lands of the village of Vrabnitsa. The house of the former large landowner and founder of the village of Vrabnitsa is located at the beginning of the park, next to the power plant (now home to his descendants). A Sun clock was built in the park.

After the collapse of state socialism,  the park was not maintained for a long time. 

In 2014 a reconstruction began. А man-made lake and two thematical playgrounds were constructed and numerous benches were placed.  Aside from these two playgrounds, there is numerous playground equipment scattered among the park – swings and slides from the totalitarian period. There is also outdoor fitness for those that like to exercise outdoors. Several restaurants and small parking accommodate the park.
