Overview
Petko Rachov Slaveykov Street or known as the Old Street has been an architectural and historical reserve since 1979. Here are some of the most famous Revival houses - Daskalova, Slaveykova, Kalincheva.
Daskalova's house
It was built for two of the sons of Hadji Hristo Daskalov. At the consecration of the house on St. George's Day in 1808, the master Dimitar Oshanetsa and the journeyman Ivan Bochukovetsa made a bet and for six months worked magnificent sun ceilings in the two rooms of the house. Even today the guests in Daskalov's house caress the suns with their rays. Here in 1963 was opened the only Museum of Carving Art of its kind, presenting the development of the oldest Revival carving school - Tryavna, starting from the earliest shepherd's carving, go through the carving that adorns the tree in the architecture of houses, the home iconostasis - so beloved and masterfully made by the people of Tryavna, and we come to the deep and plastic carving with which the first masters of Tryavna decorate church iconostasis, bishop's thrones.
The restoration of a carving workshop follows the preparatory process of woodcarving, carving tools are shown. An important focus of the exhibition is the woodcarving collection - sculptural figures of Bulgarian kings, bas-reliefs of Bulgarian revolutionaries, Revivalists, the work of one of the famous Tryavna master carvers Gencho Marangozov.
Slaveikova's House
Built around 1850. Coming as a teacher in Tryavna, Petko Slaveykov married the daughter of one of the famous Tryavna chorbadji Ivancho Raykov - Irina. "1853 - January 25: We married teacher Petko and Irina" - wrote in his chronicle priest Yovcho from Tryavna. Their family settled in a small hereditary house in the Upper Quarter of the village, where it remained until 1876. Here, under the strict care of the mother, all the children of Irina and Petko Slaveykovi grew up. They are highly educated and intelligent personalities in the public and political life of Bulgaria in the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century: Ivan Slaveykov - Mayor of Sofia in 1885, Minister of Education in the government of Petko Karavelov / from February 20 to April 24 1901 /, Member of Parliament / IV-XI Ordinary National Assembly 1884 - 1901 /; Hristo Slaveykov - Minister of Justice / 1910 - 1911 / and Member of Parliament for 25 years, Chairman of the XIV Ordinary National Assembly / 1908 - 1910 /; General of the Bulgarian Army - Racho Slaveykov and of course one of the greatest poets of Bulgaria, nominated for the Nobel Prize - Pencho Slaveykov; Donka, Rayko and Penka Slaveykovi. Visiting the house, you will feel the atmosphere of this Bulgarian home.
Kalincheva's house
Built in 1830 by Usta Dimitar Sergyuv. It houses a collection of paintings donated to the city by Totyu Gabenski.
It includes over 80 Bulgarian artists from the end of the last century to the present day. The collection was enriched with the subsequent donation of Donka and Georgi Gabenski. In the same complex, separated in two separate Revival houses are two more donations: IVAN KOLEV - painting, sculpture, sculpture. This collection presents the talented Bulgarian sculptor in his various artistic performances. IVAN POP DIMITROV - the elder of the Bulgarian artists includes mainly 20 portraits from the beginning of the century, drawings, sketches, etc., donated by the grandson of the artist Ivan Vulpe.
In 2007 a competition was held in Kalincheva House, inspired by the famous bet in Daskalova House. As a result, the rooms on the second floor were transformed by the carvers who participated in the competition. Now each of them has its own unique look and style. And the whole house is filled with samples of traditional and modern Tryavna woodcarving.
