Church of St. Nicholas Dryanovo city
Overview
In its present form, the church of St. Nicholas in Dryanovo was built in 1851 by the famous master Kolyu Ficheto. It was accompanied by one of the cell schools in Dryanovo, and as early as 1819 the first regular above-cell school started operating here. It is no coincidence that right next to "St. Nikola ”in 1896-1898 the big school building was built, which united the three Dryanovo schools.
The building is a three-nave pseudo-basilica with a bell tower and a dome, which are made of wood. An innovative solution in architecture is the inclusion of the bell tower in the temple building, not its separation as a separate building. It is octagonal, with large oval and arched openings in the walls and a tent-shaped roof. The facades are richly decorated, with the characteristic features: a wavy pediment, an intricately profiled cornice, a three-tiered arcade with built-in semi-columns above the main western entrance, a small blind arcade along the walls.
In the interior space, the smooth curve of the emporium balconies is incredibly impressive. The reliefs with floral ornaments from the capitals of the columns also stand out. The frescoes in the church are from 1926, and three of the icons in the iconostasis are the work of Stanislav Dospevski, one of the most prominent Bulgarian Revival artists and nephew of the legendary Zahari Zograf.
St. Nicholas Church was declared a cultural monument of national importance on November 23, 1971. In 2000 it was renovated and is currently operational. It is located in the city center, on Vazrazhdane Square.
Location: Dryanovo, located in the city center - Shipka Street. The site is accessible through an asphalt main city street in Dryanovo, as well as other peripheral streets.
