Church of St. Nicholas
Overview
The church "St. Nikola ”is a monument of architectural construction, built immediately after the Liberation of Bulgaria from Turkish slavery. It was built in 1879-1881 by master Georgi Mikov, built of stone and mortar. One-nave, one-apse basilica, with a gabled roof and arched entrance, above which there is a mural icon of St. Nicholas. As the most reliable source in the history of today's church is a preserved inscription above the west door, which establishes the year of construction of the church and its founders, the church was consecrated in 1881, November. Names of donors can be learned from an inscription above the southern entrance. After its construction, the church became a spiritual center for the people of the village.
The church has the only iconostasis with large Church Slavonic letters written all over its country, the Bulgarian alphabet. The exceptional educational program for its time is obvious, because on the place of the bishop's throne, where the icon of Jesus Christ Almighty is placed, here is placed the icon of the enlightening brothers of the Bulgarian family "St. St. Cyril and Methodius".
The interior of this temple is authentic with an original floor, with an intact iconostasis, with a rich stonework around the doors and windows of the temple, the two-headed eagle with the crown is also original. The many preserved sculptural and relief tombstones in the churchyard are also interesting. It stores old printed books. In 1898 a bell tower was built in the churchyard. The masters are from the village of Kumanichevo, Thessaloniki. They cast the bells on the site of today's monument. The memory states that money was collected from the entire population to make them.
The church "St. Nikola ”is a manifestation of the traditions preserved and passed down through the centuries in our church construction.
