Church of the Nativity of Christ Gesha village

Overview

The Church of the Nativity is located in the village of Gesha. Only three kilometers from the town of Dryanovo, the old road to Sevlievo passes through it.

The temple was built in the late nineteenth century, entirely with donations, and impresses with interesting architecture. The most prominent are the several brick belts, which are along the entire length of the building and are very reminiscent of the Mesembrian churches in Nessebar. Unusual for the area is the decision for the protruding north and south facades, where there are four columns, crowned with double arches, and between the columns are placed narrow, tall windows. The main building material are processed stones. The church is single-apse, cruciform, the bell tower is inscribed in the church itself.

Like many temples, especially in the villages, this one was also forgotten. Fortunately, there are active and conscientious people who decide to help restore it. We are talking about the people from Gesha View Ecovillage - one of the most serious projects in the field of rural and ecotourism in Bulgaria. Meetings with the mayor of Dryanovo municipality, with the Tarnovo metropolitan Grigoriy and so on until 2012, when a church board of trustees was finally established, which even included the actor Ivan Radoev. The young father Georgi was appointed a priest, who is also in charge of the churches “St. Trinity ”and“ Introduction to the Mother of God ”in the town of Dryanovo.

Already in the same year 2012 he applied with a project for the restoration of the church, which is worth 460,000 BGN. It was approved in early 2014, but a number of problems delayed the start of work. Nevertheless, on April 14, 2015, just two days after Easter, the repairs began. This not only restores a significant building, but also fills in the history of the village of Gesha and the Dryanovo region as a whole.

A complete strengthening of the structure was made, a new roof and floors, an electrical system, the frescoes were cleaned and preserved as much as possible, the yard and the cemetery were also cleaned, a fountain was built and lighting was made, which distinguishes the building at night.
