Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Mother of God
Overview
The Immaculate Conception is a Christian church in the town of Rakovski, Bulgaria, part of the Sofia-Plovdiv Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church. The church is a parish church in the Parchevich district (Alifakovo).
In 1919 a modest church was built for the needs of the parish. It was destroyed by the Chirpan earthquake. Only the bell tower of the church, built in 1925, has survived.
The construction of the new church began in 1930 together with the temples of the neighboring Catholic villages - "Sacred Heart of Jesus" in Kalachlii and "St. Archangel Michael" in Baltadzhii. The main credit for this goes to the Apostolic Delegate in Bulgaria Angelo Roncali. The architecture is a three-nave cruciform basilica with only one octagonal bell tower above the main entrance, designed by architect Kamen Petkov. The Catholic church in the village of Borets was built according to the same project. The population of Alifakovo - about 200 people participate with voluntary work. All ox and horse cars were used to transport construction materials.
The temple was consecrated on November 8, 1931.
The church was completely renovated at the beginning of the 21st century.
Temple holiday - December 8.
