Conventual monastery in the town of Rakovski
Overview
Monastery "St. Maximilian Kolbe ”is a functioning Catholic monastery and home of the Franciscan-Conventual Fathers, located in the“ New Center ”district of the town of Rakovski.
The monastery was consecrated on April 2, 2000 and is managed by monks of the Order of Conventuals.
The first head of the monastery was Maximilian (Joseph) Balabanski. St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe was his patron. Father Balabanski wrote and dedicated a book to him entitled “St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe - The Knight of the Immaculate.
In 2011 an international symposium was held in the monastery for the 70th anniversary of the death of St. Maximilian Kolbe - gave his life to save another. On May 25, 2013, a symposium on "Witnesses of Faith in the Risen Christ" was held at the monastery with a presentation of the biographies of 13 missionaries of the Order of Conventuals. Father Yosif Krivchev, born in the village of Baltazhdii, now a district of the town of Rakovski, was the first Bulgarian member of the order.
