Overview

Of all the Thracian brick tombs known so far in our country, the one discovered near the Kazanlak village of Rozovo is the smallest and at the same time the most carelessly executed. It is the second in Bulgaria after the emblematic Kazanlak Thracian tomb, which is a domed brick Thracian tomb, the others, which are built of bricks, are rectangular.

The tomb near Rozovo dates from the 3rd century BC. It is of the type of the Kazanlak Thracian tomb with a very well-preserved burial chamber, but without burial facilities. She was robbed by treasure hunters. The eastern wall of the tomb was destroyed in antiquity. Its diameter is 2.16 meters and is also 2.16 meters high, which makes it the smallest ever discovered of this type. It is covered with a stone slab and is made of baked bricks, and according to their different sizes and shapes it is judged that they were baked on the construction site. There was a room in front of the burial chamber and a shed with a wooden structure and brick slabs on top. It has collapsed, but the bottom will also be dug to see what is there. The facade is made of stone, and the tomb is lined with river stones. After the raids of the treasure hunters, nothing was left but a skull and scattered bones of a human skeleton.
