Virgin Mary’s footprint

Overview

In the vicinity of Starozagorski bani (1.5 km from the village center to the north)there is the beautiful natural phenomenon called "Virgin Mary’s Footstep". The legend says that this place is a sanctuary associated with various pagan rituals thousands of years ago.

After the adoption of Christianity in these lands, the area became a holy place. The myth of Virgin Mary’s Footstep was born because of the exceptionally strong bio-energy field and fantastic cove above the rocks resembling a trace of human foot where water never dries up.

A few years ago there it was built a small chapel called "Virgin Birth".

In the region there is also an ancient quarry for mining and processing different materials used in the construction of private and public buildings in ancient Augusta Traiana. On site there are remains of an unfinished sarcophagus, probably intended for a tomb of a noble citizen.
