Rock churches in the village of Golesh
Overview
The colony of rock monasteries from the early Christian era is located around Durostorum-Drustar-Silistra, southeast of Silistra along the riverbed of Suha Reka river southern village Golesh, begins a colony of rock monasteries. It includes 7 monasteries with many crypt churches, cells, chapels that have preserved their original interior and exterior from the period of late antiquity and early Byzantium. These turned out to be some of the earliest rock monasteries not only in Bulgaria, in the Balkans, but perhaps in Europe in general. The colonies of rock monasteries were abandoned during the Pecheneg invasions in the middle of the 11th century.
