Monastery of the Holy Ascension - Kamentsi village
Overview
The monastery is located in the village of Kamentsi, 40 km south of Silistra and 50 km west of Dobrich. Located in a picturesque area, which is believed to have air and water with curative power.
Nowadays the monastery is a convent, with a single inhabitant - Sister Seraphim.
During Ottoman rule, on the site of today's convent, there was a large male monastery, which was devastated and burned. Later, in 1906, a church was built in its place, which can still be seen today, and a convent appeared around it. The church impresses with its size and well-preserved frescoes and icons. Half a century ago, up to 15 weddings per week took place there. The first priest in the church - Father Tryphon was buried in the churchyard.
