REGIONAL COURT - ROUSSE
Overview
The courthouse in the city of Ruse is located in the city center, at the northern end of Freedom Square, opposite the round fountain. The building was built on the site of the former Balakchi Market (Fish Market). Later, the Ruse circus was located on this place. Under its dome, the Olympia cinema also operated for a short time, which was later moved to the place where the old post office is now. The Court House in Ruse was designed as the first such building in Bulgaria. The initial project was prepared by arch. Nikola Lazarov, and later a team at the Ministry of Justice headed by arch. P. Koychev reworked it. Due to the fact that the house of the then Minister of Justice was located on the same site at the time, construction was delayed for several years. That is why the Sofia Judicial Chamber grew first. The construction of the Ruse building began in 1929 and ended in 1939. Its opening was celebrated on January 28, 1940. The interior of the building was designed entirely by arch. Papazov, and the stained glass - by Prof. Ivan Penkov. Their implementation took place in Germany. Marble columns and a granite floor, a curved two-armed staircase with a beautiful railing and multicolored ornamental windows are eye-catching. The sculptural figures on the facade of the building were designed and executed by Prof. Lyubomir Dalchev in 1938. During the years of socialism, the District and City Councils of Ruse were located here. Since 1990 it has been the Judicial Chamber again. In place of the round fountain there was once a bus stop, which everyone called the Glass Booth. The bus stop is a vivid memory for the people of Ruse, because it was one of the favorite meeting places.
