Overview

The village of Svalenik is located 38 km south of Ruse and is located in a picturesque valley on both banks of the river Mali Lom. The settlement was first mentioned in historical documents in 1657, changing its location several times. An ancient Thracian settlement and a late Roman settlement from the III-IV century were found in the land of the village. In the vicinity are the remains of ancient settlements in the area "Kuklata" (Puppet), "White Wall" since prehistoric times and a medieval settlement with a necropolis in the area "Belena", as well as about 30 unexplored mounds. The relief of the village is hilly and flat and is characterized by many springs, and in the immediate vicinity begins the protected area of ​​the Nature Park "Rusenski Lom".
