Silkosia Reserve
Overview
The Silkosia Reserve is small in size, but extremely diverse. It is located between the villages of Bulgari and Kosti in Strandzha. More than 90% of its territory is covered with trees, among which there are various plant species. More than 260 species of plants have been identified. Some of them are typical for different latitudes, which makes the reserve even more unique. There are also many animals such as wild cat, turtle, wild boar, squirrel and wolf.
Silkosia has been a reserve since 1931 and the fact that it is the first in Bulgaria is not accidental. At that time it was created to protect the evergreen shrub formations covering the highest parts of the reserve. Today it is one of the places with the most diverse flora and fauna in Bulgaria.
