Prince Alexander Battenberg Square, Ruse
Overview
The old city center of Ruse was concentrated here. Today the square is surrounded by the buildings of the Regional History Museum, Hristo Botev High School and Lyuben Karavelov Regional Library - all heirs of institutions from the early twentieth century. A monument to those killed in the Serbo-Bulgarian War has been erected on the square - the most revered military monument in the region. Also next to this square, at the beginning of Alexandrovska Street in 1895, designed by arch. Negohos Bedrosyan built the bank of the Simeonov brothers, later Ruse Popular Bank, and now DSK Bank. The central square from the time of the Turkish rule was called Kubeli Jamisi because of the domed mosque "Hadji Yusuf" from the east. The main buildings of the Turkish government in Ruse since that time are concentrated in this area - the province, the konak, the city municipality, consulates, prison, post office, printing house, barracks, several mosques, schools, inns, baths, clock tower.
