Pancharevo Lake

Overview

Pancherevo Lake is the largest waterbody in the immediate vicinity of the city center of Sofia. It is located at the end of the picturesque Pancharevo gorge of the Iskar River, between the steep western slopes of the Lozen Mountain and the eastern lowest slopes of Vitosha.

On the shores of the lake are built a spa complex around the mineral springs, a rowing sports center, and an area for recreation. Near the rowing center is the central kay where boats can be rented. Along the eastern shore of the lake passes a picturesque panoramic trail which reveals beautiful views of Vitosha Mountain, Plana Mountain, and the villages of Pancharevo and Kokalyane. 

The area of the lake has been a favourite place for recreation for many years due to the greenery, fresh air and beautiful nature, as well as recreational facilities.

In 1977 the World Canoeing Championship was held on the lake in Pancharevo, and in 1981 - the World Junior Water Championship, which is a great pride for the village.

Pancharevo Lake is a place for the training preparation of some of the most famous canoe-kayak clubs in the country. It has hosted several world and national rowing regattas, European triathlon championships, veteran competitions.
