Boyana waterfall
Overview
Boyana Waterfall is the largest waterfall in Vitosha Mountain, with a height of 25 m. It is formed by the waters of the Boyana River, which descends steeply on the northern slopes of the mountain.
Due to the hardness of the rock, many rapids were formed along the river and a waterfall was created at 1260 m above sea level, as well as other smaller falls and waterfalls. During the melting of snow in the high parts of Vitosha, when the water volume is higher, Boyana waterfall stands out like a ribbon in the forest.
The area where the Boyana waterfall flows is relatively unpolluted. On a clear spring day, the waterfall can be seen from the center of Sofia. In winter, on the coldest days, the waterfall freezes due to its location in a muddy and deep valley. It freezes almost every winter in January or February. The height of the ice is about 25 meters. The Boyana Waterfall is a suitable place for the first steps in ice climbing.
