Monument to Vasil Levski - Dryanovo
Overview
The latest acquisition in the town of Dryanovo is the bust monument of Vasil Ivanov Kunchev - Levski. It was made in 2006, on the 130th anniversary of the April Uprising. It is located in the city center, between the clock tower and the Ikonomova house. It is a little over 3 m high. Just as the bell of the clock tower in Dryanovo woke up the city, so in the 60s and 70s of the XIX century Vasil Ivanov Kunchev (Vasil Levski) woke the people to wish and achieve their freedom from the Ottoman rule. During his tours of the Bulgarian lands, he also passed through Dryanovo. In 1869 and 1871 he was accompanied by Matei Preobrazhenski, and on the second visit the local revolutionary committee was founded. Because of this contribution of the Apostle to Dryanovo and his overall patriotic activity, the people of Dryanovo erected a bust-monument in his honor. It is among the new landmarks in Dryanovo, officially opened on May 13, 2006 in the presence of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the April Epic in the Dryanovo Monastery. The sculptor of the monument is Rositsa Misheva, and the architect is Atanas Atanasov. His total height is 3.18 m, and the bust itself is 90 cm. Twice a year Dryanovo residents gather at it - once for the anniversary of his birth and once for the anniversary of his hanging.
