Monument to Tsanko Committee

Overview

Tsanko Minkov Dechev - The Committee was born on October 1, 1856 in the village of Turia. At the age of nineteen, he went to Giurgiu, Romania. He met with Hristo Botev and joined the Cheta (armed group) in his detachment. Together with the Voivode he descended to the Kozloduy coast and took the road to Okolchitsa. After Botev's tragic death, Tsanko was wounded and exhausted and captured by the Turkish army. He was sentenced to death, but was released. He lives in Pavel Banya, where he is an honorary citizen. He leads a dignified, modest and meaningful life. He died on October 5, 1944, the last of all Botev's rebels.
