Monument to Racho Stoyanov - Dryanovo
Overview
A monument to the prominent writer and playwright Racho Stoyanov was unveiled in Dryanovo. The monument is located on Vazrazhdane Square and is the work of the famous Haskovo sculptor Ivan Paraskov. Racho Stoyanov's name hardly speaks much, even to people who love literature. And he is one of the most serious Bulgarian writers in the first half of the XX century and among the best translators from Russian, French and English in Bulgaria. He is the author of "Masters" - a work that many experts define as the best Bulgarian drama and which continues to fill theaters today. It is a curious fact that Dimitar Chorbadjiev, better known as Chudomir, asked Racho Stoyanov for advice. Racho Stoyanov was born in Dryanovo on October 7, 1883. At the age of 20, he moved to Varna, where he worked as a clerk and participated in a theater group. In 1905 he moved to Sofia. He worked in various newspapers, began publishing his works, was appointed librarian in the National Assembly, and then at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). His first works were well received, but he made a real sensation in 1927 with the already mentioned drama "Masters". It tells the story of the clash between the traditionalist Naiden and the innovator Zhivko, who are fighting not only for supremacy in the carving craft, but also for the heart of the beautiful Milkana. It opened the season at the National Theater in 1927, then it was staged abroad - Belgrade, Prague, Zagreb. The second most successful work of Racho Stoyanov is the story "Mother Magdalena" from 1936.
