Monument to the sailor
Overview
The only sailor monument of its kind in Bulgaria was unveiled in the city of Ruse on December 19, 1930 in the yard of the then naval barracks, where at that time was the base of the Danube Flotilla - the beginning of the Bulgarian Navy.
The monument is located directly above the exposition of the Roman fortress Sexaginta Prista.
The monument to the sailor is a symbol of the connection between the ancient Roman port on the Danube and the Danube flotilla created centuries later - our first fleet after the Liberation of Bulgaria. Its author is the Ruse sculptor Vladimir Vladimirov.
It was restored to its current location in 1999. Since then, the tradition of the Navy holiday starting from the city of Ruse has been revived.
