Monument to Khan Krum
Overview
Until 1934, the name of Krumovgrad was Koshu kavak, which comes from the "kushii" held here - horse racing. Then the city received the name of the medieval Bulgarian Khan Krum, who ascended the throne after Kardam. During his rule, Bulgaria strengthened its position on the Balkan Peninsula and was in Europe, thanks to the many victories on the battlefield. Krum began to bring the Slavs to power, passed the first universal laws in the First Bulgarian Kingdom and began to carry out administrative reform.
The monument to Khan Krum was erected in honor of the 1300th anniversary of the founding of the Bulgarian state. Represents a figure of Khan Krum riding a horse. The figure is 4 m high and is placed on a granite pedestal 1.50 m high. Author and performer is Petar Ivanov Dimitrov from Sofia. It was opened on 24.05.1981. The inscription reads: "In honor of 1300 years of Bulgaria".
