Monument of Mother Bulgaria - Dryanovo

Overview

This is one of the most beautiful and meaningful monuments in Bulgaria. The sculptor Prof. Lyubomir Dalchev has managed in a wonderful way to objectify Bulgaria and its aspiration - to gather all his children. However, the pride and strength of the depicted Bulgarian woman is combined with a seemingly invisible sadness - the absence of her husband, the father of the children. This is the tragedy of wars. A monument to the people of Dryanovo who died in the wars, known as the "Arch" or "Mother Bulgaria", has a perfect sculptural image of a woman with two small children. They are not just sculpted extremely beautiful, but the author has even managed to inspire emotion, life on the stone. No wonder, considering that the name of the author in question is Prof. Lyubomir Dalchev - one of the most remarkable Bulgarian sculptors in the XX century, brother of the poet Atanas Dalchev. The creation of such a monument has been discussed and planned for a long time. A donation campaign was made, and the curious thing is that the first in the book of donations are several children who made and sold various small souvenirs to contribute to the charity. It was crowned with success in 1945, when the monument was officially unveiled. It is a rectangular stone arch with a height of about 8 meters (the sculpture is 4.26 m). The right side is narrower (1.25 m, the left is 1.87) and in its lower part is composed of limestone blocks - exactly in them are sculpted the beautiful figures of a mother and her two children (probably symbolizing the desire for national unification of the fragmented Bulgarian lands) . Under the arch is a vessel on which are inscribed the years of the wars from the Liberation to the Second World War. On special occasions, a fire is lit in it. The monument is located on Osvobozhdenie Square, directly opposite the Dryanovo Municipality building. Here every year we celebrate the anniversaries of the Union and Independence:
