Overview

Founded in 1973, the museum is the successor and successor to the first State School Museum in 1905. Its fund preserves the memory of Bulgarian education - about 200,000 documents, photographs and material materials related to education from the tenth century to the present day.

Hall 1

Bulgarian education from the 9th century to 1835 In the 9th century Bulgaria was the first European country to establish its own church, school and literature, and the ancient Bulgarian language established itself as the third literary language after ancient Greek and Latin. During the years of Ottoman rule / 1396 - 1878 / the Bulgarian monasteries became literary and educational centers, preserving the medieval traditions, the Bulgarian language and consciousness. Cell schools were established, dominating the educational life of the Bulgarians until the 1930s. A revolutionary vision of the place of education in the life of the people was born.

Hall 2

New Bulgarian education 1835 - 1878 Democratic in nature, the Bulgarian Revival school measures growth with the European ones, is supported by the people and serves the national liberation idea. Until the Liberation in Bulgaria there were 1500 primary, 50 male class, 20 girls class schools, 3 high schools and 4 special schools.

Hall 3-4

Bulgarian education from 1878 to the end of the 20th century Free Bulgaria preserves and further develops the Revival traditions in education. Builds a stable and democratic educational system and school legislation. Provides continuous growth of the types and degrees of schools and universities, meeting the needs of trained staff and specialists for all areas. This ranks Bulgaria first in literacy on the Balkan Peninsula. The Bulgarian school retains its national image and democratic nature, despite the ideologisation after 1944 and the strong influence of the Soviet pedagogical system. The museum searches for and stores: documents for the Bulgarian educational work textbooks and teaching aids school and school supplies and aids, photos, clothes and personal belongings of students and teachers, school symbols, school songs and musical instruments, pedagogical literature The museum fund has over 75,000 archival units The specialized pedagogical library at the museum has over 30,000 volumes, with a separate department "Old printed literature" The museum has: photo laboratory, audiovisual studio, temporary exhibition hall, video hall The museum offers: acquaintance with the history of Bulgarian education from IX to XX century, guided talks, thematic lectures, lessons on the profile of the museum and other videos with educational themes recordings on audio media of school and children's songs, poems, dramatizations, etc.
