Overview

The National Museum of Bulgarian Literature in Sofia, established in 1976, is a state cultural and scientific institute under the Ministry of Culture. Its main purpose is to research, collect and exhibit Bulgarian literature heritage since the founding of the state to the present day. 

The museum includes the houses of our great classics Ivan Vazov, Petko and Pencho Slaveykovi, Peyo Yavorov, Hristo Smirnenski, Elin Pelin, Nikola Vaptsarov, Dimitar Dimov and Emilian Stanev and the offices of Stilian Chilingirov, Ivan Bogdanov and Vladimir Bashev.

The Museum shelters impressive collections of manuscripts, photographs, documents, correspondence, old printed literature, personal belongings of writers, valuable paintings and sculptures, ethnographic materials. unique objects of urban life.

Тhematic evenings (recitals of contemporary authors, premieres of new books, celebrations of writers' anniversaries), and exhibitions are traditionally held.
