Overview

The Yogurt Museum is located in the village of Studen Izvor, Trun Municipality. It is organized in a two-storey house in the center of the village, near the native house of Dr. Stamen Grigorov. On the first floor there is a living room, which presents the traditional interior of a typical Bulgarian house from the middle of the 19th century. On the second floor there is a library and an exhibition hall. The library stores a large number of various information materials about Bulgarian yogurt. From the first scientific publication of Dr. Stamen Grigorov on yogurt, printed in French in 1905, to the last research on the anti-cancer properties of Lactobacillus bulgaricus, conducted by Prof. Akiyoshi Hosono, at Shinshu University, Japan, a few years ago. A model is presented in the exhibition hall, which shows in detail the production of raw milk, the industrial production of yogurt and the sale of the finished product in the trade network. On the walls are hung information boards that describe the history of yogurt; home fermentation and artisanal production of yoghurt; industrial technologies for obtaining yogurt; the nutritional and biological value of Bulgarian yogurt. The museum was inaugurated on June 29, 2007. On the occasion of the opening of the museum, the first Bulgarian Yogurt Festival is held in Trun, with a rich folklore program, drawing competitions and an essay on "Yogurt - the Bulgarian name for longevity." , and a competition for the best home-made yoghurt.
