Museum exhibition of icons and woodcarving-Dryanovo
Overview
The exposition is exhibited on the second floor of the Ikonomova house. It is a rich collection of medieval and Renaissance icons painted in the period 17-19 century. They are collected from the churches in the Dryanovo district. The images are painted by painters from the Tryavna school or artists close to their artistic and aesthetic canons, among whom stand out Ioanikii Papa Vitanov, Dosyu Koyuv, Petar and Georgi Krastevi, Gencho Filipovich and teacher Zacharia. In this exposition one can trace the ideological and creative development of icon painting in the region, as well as the transition to contemporary secular art. The early specimens follow the Byzantine painting tradition. Gradually, folk beliefs took on stronger positions, destroying iconographic rules. The colors become brighter, familiar landscapes appear in the background, flocks of sheep with shepherds in Bulgarian folk costume, ordinary people in everyday clothes. Saints become more earthly, like ordinary people. Attention is drawn to the early icons with scenes from the sufferings of Jesus Christ, "St. St. George and Dimitar Voini" - in a carved frame, "St. St. Zosimus and Mary of Egypt". The works of the painters from the Tryavna Art School, who worked in the 19th century and by authors close to their views, predominate.
