Overview
The Regional History Museum occupies a central place in the cultural life of the city as the creator of the 135-year history of museum work in Gabrovo. One of the oldest cultural institutions in Gabrovo is the Regional Historical Museum, a direct successor of the museum established on May 11/24 / 1883 at Aprilov High School on the idea of the school director and future Minister of Education Raycho Karolev. The interest in the collection and preservation of Gabrovo antiquities acquires new dimensions with the founding of the prominent Gabrovo historian Dr. Petar Tsonchev on July 19, 1920. Gabrovo Historiographical Society. A statute was adopted, according to which the main goal of the company is "to collect and preserve the scattered materials needed to write a more complete history of Gabrovo." In October 1920, the first archeological excavations were organized in the Gradishte locality under the direction of archaeologist Max Neubert, invited by Dr. Petar Tsonchev and Ekim Andreychin. The first exhibition of the materials collected by the company in one of the rooms of Aprilov High School dates from 1923. On March 31, 1926, at the annual meeting of the Gabrovo Historiographical Society, it was established by the members of the board of trustees that the documents and items of the museum collection had increased to the extent that the latter could be called a museum. The Society Museum grew into a city national museum with curator Ganka Ribareva on October 10, 1949 and became state-owned. For the first time, he acquired his own building, provided to him by the municipality. It presents the first permanent exhibition with materials from the Renaissance and ethnography of the Gabrovo region. The consultant is Prof. Hristo Vakarelski. On October 1, 1960, it was declared a district museum and new departments "Archeology", "New History" / Workers' and Revolutionary Movement /, "Recent History" / Socialist Construction /, "Ethnography" were opened. On the basis of the Regional Historical Museum - Gabrovo was structured in 1978 Directorate of Cultural and Historical Heritage, which administratively unites and manages the museum, art gallery, museums and museum collections in the district. In 1988 on the territory of Gabrovo district there are 6 museums, 1 HG, 6 house museums, 20 museum collections. Since 2006, the Historical Museum - Gabrovo has been declared regional. The rich collections of the museum include exhibits from the Paleolithic era, from the late antique civilization in these lands (IV - VI century), from the First and Second Bulgarian state, from the Turkish rule, from the Revival and from the industrial rise of "Bulgarian Manchester" to the present day. . Regional Historical Museum - Gabrovo has in its funds a wealth of nearly 100,000 units. The museum carries out its activities in terms of preservation and exhibition of movable cultural values, tangible and intangible cultural heritage, the study of the history of the Gabrovo region. Some of the most valuable unique items stored in the museum and exhibited in the exhibition halls are: · Finds from the life of the first modern man in Europe; · The most complete set of sokay - traditional women's veil and decoration · The first grammar written by Neofit Rilski · Manicure bag, donated by Tsar Ferdinand I to Todoritsa Hadjiberova during his visit to Gabrovo; · Sword of Tsanko Dustabanov - voivode of the Gabrovo detachment, participant in the April Uprising; · The busts of the two most deserving industrialists of Gabrovo - Ivan Kolchev Kalpazanov and Pencho Semov; · The flag of the First Court Prince's Factory "Ivan Kalpazanov", commissioned by the longtime director Vasil Karagiozov and made in 1901 in Vienna; · The first Bulgarian banknote of BGN 20 and many others
