Kolyu Ficheto-Dryanovo Museum

Overview

The building of the Historical Museum of Dryanovo houses the exhibition "Kolyu Ficheto - life and work". The exposition was opened on July 20, 1969 in memory of the famous master builder. Nikola Ivanov Fichev, called Kolyu Ficheto, was born in Dryanovo in 1800. From an early age he began to learn a trade and became an apprentice carpenter (builder, bricklayer). He studied the craft with masters from the Tarnovo and Bratsigovo schools of architecture. Proof of his talent was that at the age of 33 he was recognized as a young master - a title that was usually acquired at an older age. He later moved to Veliko Tarnovo, where he died in 1881. During his life he built some of the most beautiful Bulgarian buildings - public and residential - from the Renaissance. Many of them still exist and impress with their beautiful and functional architecture and superb workmanship. At the beginning of the exhibition are presented archival photos from Dryanovo. Among the exhibits are the tools of the master and his personal seal. Information boards in Bulgarian and English tell about the biography of the master, his construction skills and the distinctive features of his style. Impressive are the models of buildings built by Kolyu Ficheto - the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin in Veliko Tarnovo, which is his earliest solo event, Svishtov Church. Trinity ”, the church“ St. St. Constantine and Helena ”in Tarnovo, the building of the Turkish konak in Veliko Tarnovo, which after the Liberation housed the Constituent Assembly, as well as the beautiful inn of Hadji Nikoli, also in Tarnovo. The models of the bridge over the Yantra River near Byala, Ruse region, the Covered Bridge in Lovech and the stone bridge over the Rositsa River near Sevlievo show in detail the work of the master. With photos from the past and from the present day the current state of the architectural masterpieces of the Revival master is shown. The historical museum of the city includes three more exhibitions located in other buildings in Dryanovo. Information materials and souvenirs can be purchased at the museum.
