Overview

It is part of the donation of the Bulgarian sculptor Zlatko Paunov, living in the USA. Zlatko Paunov graduated from the Art Academy in Sofia and his love for various arts makes him travel around the world. He chooses to live in New York, but his heart always remains in Africa and Asia. In the art of these two countries Paunov finds a strange resemblance to our work for most people. Today, the Museum of Asian and African Art in Tryavna houses over 1,600 art books and 3,000 slides. Many famous art collectors constantly donate exhibits from their private collections and so the museum's fund is constantly growing. More than 200 exhibits from Nepal, Tibet, China, India and some African countries, dating from the II-XX century, are shown, mostly for cult purposes. Statuettes of Hindu deities, cult objects related to Buddhism, African masks are some of the exhibits. The largest share in the collection is Buddhist art. Most items have a ritual purpose associated with the worship of Buddhist deities. Tibetan and Chinese tanks are extremely valuable. These are canonical scenes and plots painted on fabric. Believers present their icon-worship before them. The statuettes of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, made of bronze and gilding, are also invaluable. You will feel the atmosphere of a lesser-known world in Bulgaria against the background of selected music.
